Meet Camille

(the brain-dump version)

My name translates to pure (Camille) brightness (Rei).

I am a spiritual director & interfaith chaplain, spiritually expansive, Cancer sun ~ Gemini moon ~ Leo rising (water, air, fire with a gemini stellium), gender expansive woman of color, Yonsei Nikkei with ancestral roots from Hiroshima, Wakayama, and Kin (Okinawa), born & raised in the Bay Area, lifelong learner, Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), empath, plant mama, dog lover, intuitive mystic, & an interconnected-interdependent being living in an ever-changing world.

My parents love to share stories from my childhood about how sensitive I was to others.

I was always the one sitting next to the kid on the playground who got hurt. I would pat their back and sit with them while they cried. When a teacher was removing a splinter from a kid’s finger, I would stand there quietly watching and just being present.

From a young age, I was drawn to be with people through pain and experiencing deep emotions. Throughout my life, I have carried a warm presence that draws others in and provides steadiness amidst chaos.

I began to formally embrace my calling as a spiritual care provider when I applied to seminary to pursue a Master’s in Divinity, but I have been an empathic, spiritual guide all my life. It feels like something innate that I am carrying on from past lives.

Spiritual and cultural identities are entangled and inseparable

I was raised in an interreligious household. My spirituality grew out of influences from Christian, Shin Buddhist, and Shinto traditions.

I believe in the universe; I believe in spiritgod, ancestors, and that the divine is Love & Light; I believe in the interdependence of all things, that everything is impermanent, and that life is cyclical.

The practices that keep me grounded and connected to the divine shift and change and right now these include: crafting, painting, reiki, chakra work, breathing meditation, somatic healing, card reading, talking with SpiritGod, prayer, daily exercise/movement, and spending time in flowing water.

Background & Experience

I am a certified Spiritual Director and completed my training with Liberated Together. I have a Masters in Divinity with a concentration in Interfaith Leadership.

I’ve been an interfaith chaplain in hospice and hospitals. I’ve worked at UCSF Medical Center serving a Pediatric, Women's, and Cancer hospital, as well as at UC San Diego Health with the Outpatient Palliative Care team.
